Keron Nelson, South Trinidad, 1868-322-4569, Instagram: @Rocc_boyyy

Keron Nelson, who resides in South Trinidad (Princes Town) is a young creative whose personality is displayed within his art productions in every way possible.

The artist/designer as he describes himself is the owner of Awujo Studio, a word (Awujo) which translates to society from the Yoruban language of West Africa. (When selecting a name for my brand/business in 2019, it was very important to me that I pay homage to my African roots as I spent a lot of time during that period reading and viewing documentaries based on African history. It gave me an extra push to establish and own-my-own as an Afro-Trinidadian.)

In 2016 while attending the University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT), Keron began to sell t-shirts as a means of making money while attending university, it was through that he discovered the customization of sneakers and decided to give it a shot. Throughout the remainder of his school years, his passion for his newfound skill outgrew his passion for his course of study, which was confusing at times, regardless, he completed his studies and graduated with a Bachelors of education degree (Specialization - Phys Ed.) in the year 2018.

From the year 2016 to present, his skills developed in ways he never imagined as one venture leads to another. In 2019, he acquired one of his greatest achievements thus far, which was the registration of Awujo Studio. At the moment he feels more comfortable introducing himself as a sole trader, rather than an entrepreneur as he is so connected to his business in every aspect.

"Ni O | OWN IT", the slogan for his brand which he will soon introduce to his audience is simple, yet very effective as 90% of his projects are based on the personal requests of his customers. Keron uses special paints, additives, cutting tools, and a mixture of materials to create '1 of 1' sneakers, jeans, t-shirts, jackets, and most recent, canvas paintings, which is why he describes himself as an artist/designer.

In the year 2017 Keron Nelson experienced his first artist-related interview with OMG Digital Magazine which led to a feature on the OMG Digital Magazine news brief with TV6. At the end of 2019, his art was featured in the Newsday newspaper as he designed a sneaker to honor the lives of his friends who passed away in a fatal car crash. A feature from a local paper had always been on his list of goals as an artist but he wishes that it happed for a different reason.

In recent times he collaborated with well-known radio personalities such as Certified Sampson and HYPA HOPPA, in those regards, he hopes to design sneakers for at least three Soca artists within 2021 and even see his work featured in a music video. Additionally, his other short-term goals are to release the clothing aspect of his brand on a larger scale, sell his art to an international audience and introduce another business under the Awujo branding.

When he's not dealing with clients, Keron can be found gaming online, exercising (running/roller-skating/football) outdoors, or planning another 'never before seen' design.

He believes in taking action and making things happen as his favorite African proverb states, "The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago, the second-best time is NOW."
